(Paso Robles, CA) - “It’s hard to imagine that we are entering our 12th year of this event; the time has just run by,” says Mitch Massey, Senior Vice President Marketing for Heritage Oaks Bank and also Race Director. “From its humble beginnings, our Fun Run has been a mirror image of community spirit and involvement,” adds Massey.

When Heritage Oaks Bank embarked 12 years ago to establish The Heritage Oaks Bank Family Fun Day and Fun Run community event, they did so with the attitude that it would become an event in which every member of the family could participate. The event showcases eight different running/walking events to include all ages.

What the organization is most proud of is the money the event has raised for local non-profits.

“We have raised over $300,000 for our local non-profit community,” says Massey. “Each year we select four different non-profits in our community to support, and the participants are able to choose where they want their entry fee to be donated and 100 percent of all race entry proceeds go to our non profits,” adds Massey.

This year’s non-profit recipients include:

Habitat For Humanity for San Luis Obispo County

“Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County is truly honored to partner with Heritage Oaks Bank for the 12th Annual Fun Day and Fun Run in Paso Robles,” says Jon Pollock, President Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County. “Without the support of local businesses like Heritage Oaks Bank, we would not be able to build homes for our County’s low income families. On behalf of Habitat for Humanity’s board members, staff and volunteers, we are all looking forward to lacing up our running shoes for a great event,” adds Pollock.

The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County

"The Food Bank is pleased to be a recipient of the Heritage Oaks Bank Fun Day & Fun Run,” says Carl Hansen, Executive Director for the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. “We are a bank of sorts ourselves, banking healthy food that is made available to over 200 non-profits around the county with food programs. Every dollar donated to the Food Bank allows us to supply 10 pounds, or 7 meals to someone struggling. Thank you Heritage Oaks Bank, and thank you participants for helping us alleviate hunger," adds Hansen.

The North County Women’s Shelter & Resource Center of San Luis Obispo County

"We are so excited to be involved with the Heritage Oaks Bank Family Fun Day and Fun Run,” says Jennifer Adams, Executive Director for North County Women's Shelter & Resource Center. “Funding for domestic violence shelters continues to be cut; the support of this event will make a big difference to the thousands of victims we serve every year," adds Adams.

The Paso Robles Public Library

“Twelve years ago, Mitch Massey approached me with a remarkable idea”, says Julie Dahlen, Paso Robles City Librarian. “I was thrilled at his offer to incorporate our annual Children’s Authors Festival into Heritage Oaks Bank’s Family Fun Day and Fun Run and to donate a percentage of race entry fees to the Paso Robles Library Foundation. A dozen years later, Heritage Oaks Bank still recognizes the significance of reading and libraries for local families with its continued support of our City Library,” adds Dahlen.

This year’s Heritage Oaks Bank Family Fun Day and Fun Run will be highlighted by the Central Coast Classic 10K Championship. This event will award prize money to the top 10 places in an “age graded” format. Total prize purse is $2,000. Visit the Bank’s event website www.hobfunrun.com to learn more about the Central Coast Classic 10K Championship.

Back again will be the ever popular Beat KK in the 5K. Anyone who beats Kennedy Club Fitness’ owner Kevin Kennedy goes into a drawing for a free 1 year membership.

Other events include the 100 yard mascot race. Every mascot who enters has a chance to win a 42-inch flat screen TV compliments of Coast Satellite TV & Home electronics in a random drawing. The day’s events also include the 1 mile run, half-mile run, 75 yard kids dash, 3 mile walk and the Not-So-Dirty Diaper Dash. Each crawler tries to go 5 yards and all who enter go into a random drawing for a washer and dryer compliments of Idlers.

Each participant receives a pancake breakfast, water from Culligan, pizza from Marv’s Pizza, a collectible t-shirt from Yesterday’s Sportswear and a commemorative race medal. The band Oasis will be back by popular demand, playing from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A big part of the Fun Run event is the “Kids’ Day in the Park.” The ever popular author’s festival will return. Some of the nation’s premier children’s authors share their talents. Other kids’ activities include the Elks kids train, Freckles the Clown, All for Fun giant inflatables and a race car simulator.

Back for the 4th year will be “Pasta in the Park.” This is a fundraiser for the Paso Robles High School track and cross country programs. The pasta feed takes place on Saturday, September 25th from 4:30 p.m. to 6pm in the Downtown City Park. The cost is $5.

The day will conclude with KCOY-TV personality Katie Marzullo playing the role as our “Official Prize Master”. Participants will have opportunities to win some wonderful prizes including a trip to Hawaii; you must be present to win.
