(San Luis Obispo, CA)- Starting Monday, September 28th and continuing through Friday, October 2nd, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of San Luis Obispo County and Heritage Oaks Bank are joining together to raise money for this non-profit organization. The week-long event is called the CASA "5 for 5 Drive Helps Kids Thrive."

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our entire organization to get directly involved with a community outreach program that helps make a difference in so many children's lives," says Mitch Massey, Senior Vice President Markeing, Heritage Oaks Bank.

"With their many branches in different areas of San Luis Obispo County, Heritage Oaks has given us a wonderful and generous opportunity to raise funds and awareness by partnering with us in our 5 for 5 Drive, enabling the local communities to easily donate to help abused and neglected children that we serve," says Teresa Tardiff, Executive Director, CASA of Children in San Luis Obispo County.

According to the CASA website, today, approimately 780,000 children in the U.S. are caught up in the court and child welfare maze because they are unable to live safely at home. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children to make sure they don't get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system.

The CASA volunteers stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is place in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence. Last year, more than 68,000 CASA volunteers served more than 240,000 abused and neglected children through 1,018 program offices. Since the first program was established in 1977,CASA volunteers have helped more than 2 million abused children.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, September 30th, Coast 101.3 FM will be promoting the "5 for 5 Drive."

Donations may be made at any Heritage Oaks Bank branch in San Luis Obispo County with locations in Paso Robles, San Miguel, Cambria, Templeton, Atascadero, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande. You may contact CASA at 541-6542 or visit their website at www.slocasa.org.
